Looking back, I find it interesting the number of clients Ron and I shared, though never by design. It would just be a coincidence. One such client, a wealthy oil magnate divorcee, owned and sold on contract a home on “the point” overlooking Manzanilla and the bay below to an evangelist in Oklahoma City. He had ceased paying the monthly installments, but his entourage would not vacate the premises. I was dispatched by the owner to handle the problem.
I did acquire a court order mandating the evangelist’s removal from the premises, but, to me, most interesting in the court hearing was the court reporter. She literally transcribed every word said, English or Spanish, typing on an old manual Royal typewriter. At times, I fully expected to see smoke rising from the keyboard. Nevertheless, once the order of removal was acquired, Ron was sent to remodel the home on “the point.”
I began to observe, in these days, Ron’s dual personality. Perhaps it was dual. The ladies loved to go to “Market” with Ron and would naturally get excited as they dreamed up designs. Interestingly, though they spent a lot of money, they were always money-conscious. They liked going to Market in Dallas because Ron had them believing that, because he had a license to get into the Market, he could purchase “at cost,” and he would give them this good deal. They could just pay him for his interior design work.
